Mystique Shine At The Copperbox Arena, London
The Basingstoke Wolverines are the longest running competitive cheerleading squad in North Hampshire and attended their first competition of the season at Legacy Cheer & Dance, Copperbox Arena, London.
The Wolverines took three teams to the event in London with 45 athletes in total and for many of them it was their first ever experience of a competitive competition.
Their youngest squad Mystique comprising of girls aged 5 to 11 competed at Youth Level 1 Medium on Saturday 27th February and came in 3rd place, just 1.1 points behind the winners in a very close competition.
Storm squad made up of girls from 12 years plus competed at Senior Level 1 Large on Sunday 28th February and finished in 7th place in one of the most competitive divisions of the weekend. This was a great achievement as the squad was hit by injuries just 2 days before the competition and had to change the routine in an emergency training session late on Friday night.
The newest squad Rogue made up of girls up to 14 years of age competed at Junior Level 2 Small on Sunday 28th February and finished in 4th place which was a great result as the squad was only formed in September 2015 and a step up from Level 1 for a lot of the girls.
The club's next competition is only 3 weeks away so the athletes and coaching staff are back in training and working hard on improving and tidying up their routines.
Kayleigh Fennell, Head Coach at Basingstoke Wolverines said: "You all worked so so hard and we saw some incredible things on that mat - new skills, first time performances and some great show of initiative and fight. Thank you all to those that came and watched to support the girls they couldn't do it without you!"
The programme and squads are getting stronger and larger with new athletes signing up for our development squad Shadowcats which enables athletes to gain and learn new skills and gain confidence before deciding whether to join a competitive squad.
The club trains three times a week at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday's with times depending on squads.
New members are always welcome - To book a free taster session or if you would like some more information, contact the club via their website -www.cheerbasingstoke.co.uk or email hello@cheerbasingstoke.co.uk or call 07762 770999.
